“HELB is full of wonderful people who are always ready to help”

Siniša Boltižar was employed at HELB in a warehouse, and then as a deliverer 17 years ago. As he spends most of his working days in the van, we chased him for months to sit down with us for half an hour and tell us his story. And once we started, it was hard to stop. It is to describe tell 17 years of experience, emotions, events, stories, and memories briefly. Simke is without a doubt the good spirit of HELB and without him it would not be the same place. Above all, he is loyal to work and people, a person of trust, cheery, humorous, the soul of every group, but also loud. If by any chance you find yourself in HELB, you will surely hear his voice first, even if you are not in the same room ?. He does his job responsibly and meticulously. Feel free to hand over the job to him and forget about it, because it will surely be done accurately and in time. This is our Simke, you just can’t help but love him.

What does your job at HELB include and what does your average day look like?

I work as an assistant in HELB’s warehouse and as the deliverer. My job includes everything that someone at HELB needs done that concerns the transportation service. Whether it’s the transportation of goods, official documents, and sometimes even people. Every day I collect the ordered goods from the supplier, collect or transport the goods for the company or the construction site, transport bulky equipment, as well as collect the goods when a project on-site is completed. I take documentation to the bank, tax office, law office, notary, submit bids for the tender, participate in the opening of bids, pick up project documentation, and so on. Everything that comes to your mind is done by logistics.

In the company’s official software and calendar, we enter important jobs that we have knowledge of in advance or have a specific date. There are many jobs that pop up that day and need to be resolved immediately, so it often happens that the fixed schedule is adjusted by the specific situation. Because that’s the type of job. My workday starts in the morning, and lasts until it ends ?.

How long have you been at HELB and did you work as a deliverer right away?

I came to the company in 2003, when there were 35 of us, and now there are at least 100 more. I got a job interview at HELB based on the recommendation of my former employer, from a company that also dealt with electricity. I’ve worked in the warehouse for a year, but I realized I wasn’t a person who could sit in one place for eight hours. Then they gave me a van, a to-do list and let me on the road ?. And it’s been like that for 17 years.

What are your favorite things about HELB and where do you see room for improvement?

Mr. Vladimir Horvat – founder of the company. Above all, he has humanity, and he is good with people. Mr. Horvat is always smiling and had never entered the company without saying hello and asking how we are doing and how is our family. Family comes first, and for him, HELB is family. You can always knock on his door, say I need a conversation and he’ll always find time, and try to help. He never left a man stranded. What more needs to be said? In the 18 years I’ve been here, paycheck has only been delayed once, at the start of the recession. He immediately called a meeting, apologized to the people, and explained the reasons, and said that anyone who has loans and obligations should come to the office so together they could resolve it. It is important to him that people are satisfied. There are other wonderful people here that you can trust, who will help you and always jump in when you need them. The company is founded on partnership, collegiality, and family. There is no mine or yours, we all do everything when it’s necessary. I’m not saying that there aren’t any difficulties, but there are always efforts to solve them and there are a lot of beautiful things that keep me here.

If I could change something, I would further improve the procedures that need to be followed and implemented. That’s where it all starts, and that’s the foundation of good organization.

What do you do in your free time?

I used to do diving, now I don’t have the strength for it anymore. I love everything that young people love ?. I do a bit of agriculture, watch movies, play games, ride a motorcycle, always do something around the house and around the car. I love hanging out with family and friends and to grill. When I have free time then I try to enjoy it.
